Guide · Audience research

Use a synthetic audience check responsibly

Treat simulated feedback as a preflight prompt, not as evidence of what real customers will do.

Updated August 2, 20265 minute readSynthetic feedback can expose questions and ambiguities; only real evidence can validate customer behaviour.

Choose the question before the audience

Ask a narrow review question such as “Which phrase is unclear?” rather than “Will this campaign win?”. The first can support revision; the second invites false confidence.

Keep the boundary visible

Label simulated responses as synthetic wherever they appear. Do not present generated names, quotes or scores as observed customer research.

  • Use the check to find possible confusion, missing context or risky wording.
  • Do not use it to claim demand, conversion, preference or market size.
  • Record the prompt and assumptions when feedback affects a decision.

Decide what needs real research

Escalate important unknowns to customer interviews, support data, controlled tests or another appropriate evidence source. A preflight should make the next research question clearer.
